3. Our Favourite Lessons Saturday 17 May, 9.30am-12.30pm
Following our very popular “Our Favourite lessons”workshop for primary and secondary teachers in 2007, Sue Bremner convenes our 2008 workshop with new lessons and a range of teacher/presenters. While the lessons are presented by primary and secondary teachers, they also provide many tips for teachers of adult ESL.
TERM 3
4. Our Favourite Lessons for Adult ESOL Students
Saturday 16 August, 9.30am-12.30pm
Come and join ESOL teachers with particular experience in the adult field as they present some of the lessons that have worked for them. In this workshop the presenters will explore a practical array of ESOL strategies that have proven effective in supporting adult students- students whose first language experience ranges from low literacy to the achievement of tertiary qualifications. The English language goals of these students are also varied and include the attainment of survival English, further study in Australia and employment. Be prepared to participate!

7. HSC English (ESL) Revision Day
Monday 29 September, 9.00am-4.00pm
Venue: Smith Auditorium, Shore School, William St, North Sydney
This new venue in a tranquil setting with comfortable seating and state of the art facilities is conveniently located one block from North Sydney Station and bus terminals. Limited free parking will be available for teachers with preference for teachers who are transporting students or who attend with their students.
Parking must be pre-booked and early bookings are advised.
Cost: $20 per student, $45 per teacher
For HSC English (ESL) students and their teachers. Students receive tips & guidance on how to prepare for every paper. Handouts for each session. Presenters are experienced HSC teachers and markers.
TERM 4
8. LOW LITERACY LEARNERS: SHARING AND CARING WORKSHOP
Saturday 25 October 9.30am-12.00pm
This workshop will include a review of recent research and shared practice, course planning for pre-literate and low literacy learners, issues in reading and writing, discussion of sample lessons captured on DVD and examination of materials.
Presenter: Pornsawan Brawn is a Project Officer, ESL teacher, material writer and curriculum developer for NSW AMES. She was awarded an MA in TESOL from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, USA.
While seconded to the AMEP Research Centre, Macquarie University, Pornsawan was actively engaged in the organisation of Professional Development programs.
